full-mailboxIt is always so exciting to get a new book in the mail.  A thrill runs through me whenever I see a package in the mailbox, on the front porch, or being delivered to me from the office at school.  Just think how exciting it is to be a librarian.  A couple of weeks ago I turned in my major book order for the year.  I have so much fun when the order arrives.  I get to open and go through about 17 boxes of new books.  WOW.  My personal haul isn’t that impressive, but it is still a lot of fun.  This week I added 5 books to my collection.  Be sure to stop by The Story Siren’s blog to see what she got this week.  There you’ll also see links to others who participate with an “In My Mailbox” post.

Mika and Ellie live in a future behind a wall: Solid concrete topped with high-voltage razor wire and guarded by a battalion of Ghengis Borgs, it was built to keep out the animals, because animals carry the plague. At least that’s what Ellie, who was kidnapped as a child, has always been taught. But when she comes to suspect the truth behind her captivity, she’s ready to risk exposure to the elements and answer the call of the wild. Listen. Can you hear it? She’s strapping on her headset, jumpstarting her Pod Fighter, and–with her capuchin monkey at her back–she’s breaking out!

Jealous whispers.

Old rivalries.

New betrayals.

Two months after Elizabeth Holland’s dramatic homecoming, Manhattan eagerly awaits her return to the pinnacle of society. When Elizabeth refuses to rejoin her sister Diana’s side, however, those watching New York’s favorite family begin to suspect that all is not as it seems behind the stately doors of No. 17 Gramercy Park South.

Farther uptown, Henry and Penelope Schoonmaker are the city’s most celebrated couple. But despite the glittering diamond ring on Penelope’s finger, the newlyweds share little more than scorn for each other. And while the newspapers call Penelope’s social-climbing best friend, Carolina Broad, an heiress, her fortune—and her fame—are anything but secure, especially now that one of society’s darlings is slipping tales to the eager press.

In this next thrilling installment of Anna Godbersen’s bestselling Luxe series, Manhattan’s most envied residents appear to have everything they desire: Wealth. Beauty. Happiness. But sometimes the most practiced smiles hide the most scandalous secrets. . .

A day at the fabled amusement park Isles of Wonder turns deadly when a world-wide biological attack kills every adult, leaving behind only the kids to fend for themselves. Isolated from the world, unsure of what lies ahead, the young survivors assemble under the statue of King Neptune, the mythical ruler of the Isles, to form a new society.  Led by the children of the park workers, they choose to remain closed off from the outside world living relatively comfortably inside the self-contained park. But when violence from the infested outside world appears to infiltrate their safe zone, one small group discovers a secret society and a hidden system of underground tunnels, and the stage is set for a war that will determine the future of everyone on the Isles.

In a near-future world run by an evil corporation, the only justice comes from an organization called the Deck. Each agent in the deck belongs to a suit — the Hearts and Diamonds are the operatives, the Clubs do the training, and the Spades monitor internal affairs. The hero is a 16-yr-old, Six of Hearts. (The highest ranking in each group is the King, and so forth, with the whole shebang led by the two Jokers). Six of Hearts is the best operative they have — all the more impressive (and convenient for us) because he never kills anyone.

Well, here’s to another good week.  What did everyone else get in their mailboxes?
